Little Beach

Little Beach is a small, secluded cove just north of Big Beach in Makena State Park. Known as Maui’s unofficial nude beach, it offers a relaxed, free-spirited atmosphere where clothing is optional and nudity is tolerated, though technically illegal under Hawaiian law. The beach is popular for sunbathing, gentle bodyboarding, and snorkeling. On Sunday evenings, a lively drum circle and fire dancing draw both locals and tourists, adding to its festive and communal vibe.

The beach is framed by lava rock cliffs, giving it a sense of privacy and shelter from the wind. There are no facilities directly on Little Beach, so visitors must use restrooms and parking located at Big Beach.

By public transport:

None available; best reached by car combined with walking.

By car:

Drive to Makena State Park’s Big Beach parking lot (pay $10 for non-residents, $5 per person entry), park there.

By foot:

Walk to the north end of Big Beach, then follow the rocky lava-flow trail over the bluff (~5–10 minutes) to reach Little Beach.
