Hippie Hollow Park

The only clothing‑optional public park in Texas, perched on rocky Lake Travis shores, rugged terrain, and adult‑only swimming

Beach overview

Hippie Hollow Park is a rugged, clothing-optional oasis tucked into the steep, rocky shoreline of Lake Travis, just outside Austin, Texas. Spanning about 109 acres of limestone outcrops and natural coves, this park offers dramatic hill-country views and clear, bath‑warm waters.

Though often called a “beach,” there’s little sand here—more jagged rocks and boulders that require hiking and nimble footing to reach the water. Sunbathers typically lounge on rocks or float on tubes, and the terrain rewards early risers: arrive at dawn to beat the crowds and secure a scenic spot by the water.

The park carries a vibrant, free-spirited energy rooted in Austin’s 1960s counterculture, which earned it the nickname “Hippie Hollow.” It’s the only legal spot for nude sunbathing in Texas and is strictly restricted to adults 18 and older. Visitors must pay a small cash-only fee at the gate and adhere to rules: no lewd behavior, no pets, no glass, and no photography without permission.

On weekends and specifically during LGBTQ+ “Splash Days,” the park buzzes with social interaction, cruising, and spontaneous gatherings, yet it retains a culture of respect and privacy. It’s a place where naturists, couples, and solo visitors can enjoy open-air recreation in an inclusive, non-judgmental setting, all against the beautiful backdrop of winding trails, rocky cliffs, and the shimmering blue of Lake Travis.
