Orient Beach

A glamourous, mile‑long white‑sand beach on the French side, famous for vibrant beach clubs, watersports, and a naturist section

Beach overview

Orient Beach (Baie‑Orientale) is widely regarded as Saint-Martin’s premier beach. Stretching for about 1.5 miles along the east coast, it offers fine powdery sand cooled by gentle Atlantic trade winds. Flanked by trendy beach clubs, restaurants, and bars, the atmosphere radiates a sophisticated yet relaxed Riviera‑style charm.

The northern and central areas are a hub for watersports: you’ll find kite‑surfing, parasailing, snorkeling, and stand‑up paddleboarding available. The turquoise, moderately calm water also makes it ideal for families and swimmers.

At the southern tip lies a quieter stretch, partially clothing‑optional, often referred to as the naturist zone. Though Club Orient’s facilities were damaged by Hurricane Irma, several bars still cater to naturists, offering loungers, umbrellas, and a laid‑back vibe.

In the adjacent Orient Village plaza, you'll find several rebuilt and upgraded venues like Bikini Beach, Kakao Beach, Perch Bar, and Kontiki. Together, these provide an appealing mix of fine dining, live music, and sunset cocktails. Small resorts and vacation villas dot the surrounding hillside, making it a popular stay for both families and couples.

How to get there

By car:

From Marigot or Grand Case, drive northeast on RN7 (Route du Nord, also called Route de Quartier‑d’Orléans). Follow signs to Baie‑Orientale; ample roadside parking and small lots are available near beach entries. A rental car gives flexibility—cruise‑bus transfers can be pricey.

By public transport:

Shared vans (called bush taxis) and local buses run between Marigot and Quartier‑d’Orléans. Ask for “Baie‑Orientale” or “Orient Beach”—you’ll be dropped near the road junction. Fare is typically €2–4. It’s a short walk through low dunes to the beach.

By foot:

Staying in Cul‑de‑Sac or Mont Vernon? You can reach the northern end with a ~10‑15 min walk over a coastal path or along the beach. Walking along the full length, including reaching the naturist section, can take 30–45 min round‑trip.
